In compliance with the Georgian legislation, sanitary protection zones are identified to protect the water being used for drinking, domestic, medical and treatment purposes.

“Georgian Water and Power” LLC, rendering water supply and drainage services, has sanitary zones for its water supply under ground and over ground sites.

The sanitary zones are divided into 3 belts and each of them has a special regime:

• first zone – a strict regime zone involving the territory where water supply water object is located. Dwelling of unauthorized person, construction of dwelling or administrative buildings, extraction of aggregates, application of pesticides for plant protection is prohibited in this belt;

• second zone – the territory being in direct vicinity of water supply water object and their tributaries. Activities that may cause qualitative or quantitative worsening of water, construction, destruction of plants, arrangement of rail and motor ways, agricultural activities are prohibited in this belt;

• third zone – the territory neighbouring with the second belt zone and creation of undesirable situation on that territory may cause chemical pollution of water.

The boundaries of the Company’s sanitary zones are drawn on a map and the boundaries of the first belt are fenced and protected by security forces.
