METERING

The more orderly a metering system is the more responsible customers become– they try to save their budget and consume water efficiently. Water losses are high in the damaged networks, leaking pipes and broken taps owned by the population. In the result, drinking water flows directly to the sewage and we are losing it. And this happens in many Tbilisi families. It is evident that this causes great damage for the Company which is spending large labour and material resources for processing and delivering the water to consumers. This problem can be resolved only through arrangement of metering points for the population or individual metering of families.

Till September 1, 2010, metering in water supply system was voluntary for the population.

In compliance with the Resolution #18 of the GNERC, dated August 17, 2010, water distributing companies, “Georgian Water and Power” among them, were given the right of individual metering of the population.

Individual metering of the population will resolve many problems existing in the water supply sphere:

  • drinking water will be saved and consumed efficiently, which will definitely further 24-hours water supply in Tbilisi;
  • exact number of residential customers (population) will be defined;
  • each family (customer) will be paying exactly as much as it consumes;
  • each family will be able to control drinking water consumption and, correspondingly, save its own budget.

The population will have to consider also that individual metering is a time-consuming process and it can not be carried in the whole Tbilisi at a time. Metering will be implemented gradually, according to a special project and plan.

In compliance with Resolution #18 of GNERC, the price of arrangement of a metering point, which will not be more than GEL 100, shall be paid by a customer. However, “Georgian Water and Power” is ready to offer its customers favourable conditions: the cost of meter, its installation and replacement of a standpipe initially will be paid by the Company. Customers will start repayment of this amount only in 6 months and, together with current payments, will settle it in the course of two years.

Metering for Legal Entities

Metering is mandatory for all objects representing legal entities or state-owned property, as well as for the objects leased by legal entities.  Individual metering will necessarily apply to the new constructions to be used for business purposses in the future.

Legal entities willing to install meters shall apply to the head office of the Company. The Company experts will provide to the customers detailed information related to the metering and registration of customers.  Company experts will also define type of meter to be purchase by the customer based on the specificity of activity. After submission of all necessary documentation and purchase and installation of proper meter the metering point will be sealed and the customer will be registered.
