08/01/2015 Statement of Georgian Water and Power on the Expected Frost in Tbilisi
Georgian Water and Power company, based on the weather forecast of the Forecast Bureau of National Environment Agency, reissues a recommendation for the customers of Tbilisi about the frost expected in Tbilisi one of these days. The company asks the residents of Tbilisi to get prepared and wrap or thermally insulate their overground water supply networks supplying water to their taps. GWP also asks the customers to wrap those metering points that are installed in their yards and open structures.
It would allow the Company’s customers to avoid some problems and interruptions in water supply, which can be possibly caused by freezing of water in the pipes, meter failures and local emergency breakdowns. The problems of such type may cause interruptions in water supply not only of specific customers but of nearby customers as well.
The company’s recommendation is especially advisable for the part of the residents of Tbilisi and commercial sector who live or do their business in such private houses, Tbilisi yards or high-rises, which are supplied drinking water via exposed networks and have their meters installed in the yards and open areas. GWP made the first statement with recommendations regarding the upcoming winter season at the beginning of November and sent individual recommendation letters to more than 5000 customers.
The company started winter preparation work in November of last year and took all the necessary technical measures. At the same time the company imposed strict control over those streets of the capital, which had obsolete or amortized networks and there is a possibility of emergency breakdowns due to winter frost.
