12/08/2009 Joerg Matthies and Goga Khatchidze Familiarized with Environmental Problems on Site
Today Minister of Environment and Protection of Natural Resources Goga Khachidze and GWP General Director Joerg Matthies attended the scheduled joint inspection aiming at elimination of air pollution in Aragvi Gorge.
Goga Khachidze and Joerg Matthies got acquainted with the existing situation in Natakhtari, Mukhrani Valley and Zhinvali reservoir on site. The quarry in the riverbed of Aragvi near village Natakhtari damaged several water supply systems. Goga Khachidze promised the population that he would discuss the ways how to solve the problem with the Ministry of Economic Development.
The problem is different in Mukhrani Valley. The livestock belonging to the refugees living illegally on the territory adjacent to the building of the headwork make the sanitary zone dirty.
Goga Khachidze talked to the local population about the environmental problems in Aragvi Gorge. At the end of the visit to the region Minister of Environment and Protection of Natural Resources visited Zhinvali reservoir.
Goga khachidze stated that all problems will be reviewed and solved step-by-step.
The main source of water supply of Tbilisi – Zhinvali reservoir as well as entire Aragvi gorge is constantly polluting with polyethelene bottles and other domestic wastes thrown there by local population and holidaymakers.
Several measures will be scheduled for the elimination of the indicated facts. The employees of the Environment Protection Inspection will work under special conditions.
